Minutes of the Awards and Ceremonies Committee
for February 7, 2007

Present: L. Barber, T. Castor, S. Funkenstein, S. Hanson, C. Jensen, G. Li, S. McLaughlin, R. Walasek, E. Wilson

1. A request to allow international students to purchase and wear sashes
at Commencement was discussed and approved

2. A subcommittee headed by S. McLaughlin will look for any relevant,
existing policy concerning dress and displays at Commencement and if
needed to draft a policy for UWP

3. Chancellor Keating's request to limit the number of Outstanding
Graduates was discussed. The Committee disagreed with this request
and suggested reasons why why a limit of 8 should be continued.
R. Walasek agreed to convey the Committee's opinion to the
Chancellor

4. Scholarship Subcommittee has a large task ahead.

5. Meeting adjourned at 12:50pm

NOTE: Chancellor Keating subsequently agreed with the Committee and
agreed to an upper limit of 8 Outstanding Graduates.
