The Academic Policies Committee meeting of Monday, November 20, 2000 wascalled to order in CA 233 by E. Zepp, Chair, at 12:05 P.M. Also attending were D. Davidson, F. Mueller, D. Olsen, J. Ostheimer, M. Power. M. Gurtman joined the meeting in progress.
The minutes of the meeting of November 6 were approved as distributed by e-mail.
Internship document:
With the addition of a learning contract form (distributed at meeting), the
corrected Internship form (policies and procedures) was approved by unanimous
vote (motion F. Mueller, second D. Olsen).
Credit for Experience-Based
Learning:
--The draft paragraph on an appeal process submitted by J. Ostheimer was approved
for insertion as the second "bullet" on
p. 3 of 7 of the document. (# 11 after changes)
--Number "9" bullet on p. 2 of 7 was eliminated.
--Bullet "8" was amended with the following addition at the end of
the first sentence: "The department's decision must be rendered no later
than one semester after the portfolio is submitted." (# 8 after changes)
--Bullet # 2 was amended to read (i.e., for 11 OR MORE CREDITS). (#2 after changes)
--These "bullets" are to be numbered: 1-14 with the above changes.
--J. Ostheimer agreed to review the document to be sure other sections agree
with the new numbering.
--p. 6 of 7: add to beginning of # 4: "A course chosen for a major can
only be used for that purpose if the student has been admitted to that major."
The revised package was approved unanimously for return to CAP (motion F. Mueller,
second D. Olsen).
Forwarded change of language
from the General Education Committee: The added wording on transfer students
as forwarded from the Gen. Ed. minutes of Nov. 8 was approved unanimously (motion
F. Mueller, second D. Olsen).
Transfer students with 90 or more acceptable credits OF MULTI-DISCIPLINARY COURSEWORK
from an accredited LIBERAL ARTS, BACCALAUREATE DEGREE-GRANTING college or university
will be considered to have completed the UW-Parkside general education rquirements
(excluding the foreign language AND ETHNIC DIVERSITY requirements).
Request from Tonya Hanson
to revisit the revised Academic Forgiveness Policy:
Follwing changes of wording approved unanimously (motion D. Olsen, second F.
Mueller): Introductory paragraph:
Academic Forgiveness is a policy which applies to an undergraduate student with
a poor academic record from earlier college or university work, AT UW-PARKSIDE
OR ELSEWHERE. THE GOAL OF THIS POLICY IS to lighten the burden of poor prior
performance once the student has demonstrated HER/HIS ability to succeed academically.

New # 2 (between current #1 and #2): "This policy applies only to degree-seeking
students. It does not apply to courses which were earned in a completed degree
at UW-Parkside or elsewhere."
