Sue Lemens of the
Registrar's Office indicated the following policies in reporting data to the
UW-System: 100-200 level classes: Disc = .5 cr; Lab = .5 cr; Lec = rest of credit.
300-400 level classes: Lec = 1 cr per hr of lec; Disc = 1 cr; Lab - rest of
cr.
The question was raised whether this information presented was based on UW System
policy or UW-Parkside policy. It was also indicated that this policy would not
fit performance disciplines.
D. Olsen provided information on a related topic from the October 30, 2001, minutes of the University Committee in which Dean Cress was invited to discuss workload for supervising internships. It was indicated that Dean Cress would present data on this issue at a future meeting and a workload policy would be developed together with the University Committee.
After extensive discussion it was apparent that there is no common policy on this issue. The committee also wishes information from departments which have not yet reported their policies such as art, dramatic arts, music, etc. The committee suggested that Dean Cress and Dean Wafa be invited to the next meeting to share their College and School policies on credit for laboratory/discussion and similar courses with particular concern for distinguishing between credits hours for students and contact hours for faculty.
3. The committee briefly discussed Winterim based on an e-mail message fromUW-Platteville provided by Larry Duetsch. It was concluded that, while many courses could fit into the Winterim schedule, others could not and therefore criteria need to be developed for identifying appropriate Winterim courses. The issue of additional compensation or credit for faculty teaching Winterim courses on Spring Semester workload was mentioned.
4. D. Olsen distributed the material titled "Academic Programs with Non-Standard Formats" provided by E. Zepp. There was no time to discuss this so it will be saved for a future meeting.
5. The committee suggested that the Dean Cress and Dean Wafa be invited to the next meeting to share their College and School policies on credit for laboratory/discussion and similar courses with particular concern for distinguishing between credits hours for students and contact hours for faculty. If there is time, the committee will begin discussion of criteria for Winterim courses.
The meeting adjourned at 1 PM. Next meeting: Monday, December 10, 2001, GRNQ 210.
Respectfully submitted
Dwayne G. Olsen
Secretary for the Day
