for October 30, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 12:05

Absent, Erin McDermott

1.  The Minutes of September 25 were approved, pending minor typographical changes.

2.  Laura Gellott reported on the Senate discussion, at its October 20 meeting, of the internship/credit proposal for students serving on governance committees.  University Committee put it on the Senate agenda as an info item only, wishing additional sign-on by other departments (POLS in particular) and consultation with the chairs of the affected governance committees.  This will be done before the Senate's November meeting.

3.  Discussion of on-line learning and Task Force.  The Task Force has been appointed by the provost's office, and is scheduled to have its first meeting soon.  Both Megan Mullen and Jim Robinson have been invited to our NOVEMBER 6 Meeting.

4.  Discussion of the annual report of the Committee on Advising, and its recommendations regarding additional staffing in the Advising Center.  As APC recognizes how important advising is to the successful carrying out of academic programs and policies, there is some feeling that APC should endorse those recommendations in the report.  Laura Gellott will try to have a draft resolution ready for our November 6 meeting.

Next meeting: Friday, November 6, 2009, Noon.

Meeting adjourned: 1:00
