Minutes of the Admissions, Records,
& Student Information Committee
for November 15, 2002

Present: Lisa White; Richard Lott; Fred Monardi; Li Zhaohui; Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes

1. Admissions/Enrollment figures; we circulated the reports from Sept., and Richard Lott had a 5 year overview; we agreed to review the data and take a more serious look at the next meeting. The Chair will circulate some questions for us to consider.

2. On-Line registration: Richard will update the committee at the December mtg., since this semester is our second registration period, and we will be under way by then.

3. Pre-requisites: The chair pointed out that at the meeting in April, several faculty asked about the feasibility of real blocks for on-line registration, if students have not fulfilled pre-requisites. The committee continues to be concerned, as this is one of the few issues which illicits voluntary questions and concerns from faculty

4. DARS update: we will invite Trudy Biehn to report at our next meeting on the transition to some changes in place; Richard Lott points out that the interface between DARS and PeopleSoft will require a transition period and the committee asked for futher information at next meeting; Lisa White pointed out that there continue to be problems for advisors in Fine Arts regarding the queing process for printout of DARS; the chair agreed that this continues to be enough of a problem for faculty not close to the designated printer, that some advisors including herself, don't even try (the chair is no longer even in the same building as the printer set up to print out for English). Lott agreed to look into some of these and related concerns for advisors.

5. Exit interviewing: Fred Monardi asked if there has been any progress in conducting focus groups or exit interviews for non-returning students. The chair agreed to ask Admissions for an update.

6. Student member: we now have a student to join the committee, if a suitable meeting time works out for next semester.

NEXT MEETING: DECEMBER 9, MONDAY, NOON, IN COM. ARTS. 129.
