Minutes of the Admissions, Records, Student Information
Committee for February 16, 2006

Present: Trenton Baylor, Nick Henning, Stephen Hawk, Rhonda Holland, Matt Jensen, Dennis Kaufman, Jonathan Olsen, Mary Power, Dean Yohnk, and Special Guests: Mary Louise Edwards, Carmel Ruffolo

The meeting convened at approximately 12:00 p.m.

 I. No chairperson has yet been determined.

II. Continued topic of discussion brought forward by Gerald Greenfield: a conditional admit policy for first year students who graduated at the bottom of their high school class.

As previously defined by the committee: Applicants that are in the lower upper half in their class (rank) AND have an ACT score below 18.

The following conditions were agreed upon:

1 – Students must take all required skills courses (developmental) within their first 28 credits at UWP and must successfully complete each of them with a grade of "C" or above.

2 – Students will be limited to 14 credits per semester.

3 – Students will not be allowed to declare a major until completion of these conditions. (This is to keep them tightly connected with the Advising Center to get them through their conditions).

4 – Students must receive approval of advisor to add and/or drop any courses during this time frame.

5 – Students must make contact with their mentor/advisor (the can be defined each term etc based on needs and what we can support).

6 – Students must achieve and maintain a term GPA of 2.0

A formal vote will take place once the next steps have been discussed and agreed upon (i.e. what if they don't meet criteria, what if they do…what are next steps).

It was determined that Rhonda will take this updated information as a follow up FYI to the February 22nd APC meeting to let them know a recommendation will be coming soon.
