Minutes of the Athletic Board
for March 28, 2001

Meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m.

Present were Professors Bill Murin, Peggy James, Laura Gellott; Acting Athletic Director David Williams, student-athlete rep. Brian Coffman, Community rep. Marvin Letvin.

Excused: Professor Bob Canary, Brad Piazza

Absent: Professof David Wright.

In the absence of Professor Canary Laura Gellott chaired the meeting and served as secretary.

1. Dave Williams reported that the ISSG report was due at NCAA on April 18. Bill Murin and Dave Williams, with assistance from Lenny Claver and Linda Draft, are preparing the report. A draft will be distributed to Board members on or about April 6. Members should reply by e-mail to Dave Williams with suggestions/approval. The report will then be signed by the Chancellor and sent to NCAA.

2. Bob Canary and Laura Gellott still need to draft a letter to be sent to faculty pointing out that consideration needs to be given to student athletes who are absent due to road events, consideration on a par granted to students who are away from campus due to class-related field trips, etc.

3. Dave Williams reported on ongoing budget discussions regarding the SAC. While the administration appears to be willing to target additional funds toward the financial cost of operating the building (lifeguards, weight room supervisors, other personnel) there appear to be no additional funds available for maintenance costs. The original projection that the campus could cover 100% of operating and maintenence costs through building rental and special events is proving to be utterly unrealistic.

4. Dave Williams reported that two GLVC conference won NCAA Division II championships: Kentucky Wesleyan in men's basketball, and in Women's Basketball Northern Kentucky University reached the Elite Eight.

Pursuant to Wis Stats 19.85(1)(f) it was moved and seconded to go into closed session to discuss a personnel matter. Student Brian Coffman left the meeting at this point.

The meeting adjourned at 1:10.
