was Donald Cress, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

B. Recommendations.

1. tenure track positions

The committee recommends approval of the following positions.

Biological Sciences-Protein Structure
Chemistry
Criminal Justice
English
HPEA
Mathematics-Carr replacement
Sociology/Anthropology

After clarification from the chair of Communication and revision of the PAR, the request from Communication was also recommended for approval.

The committee does not recommend approval of the following positions.

History. The most recent hire in the History department was made under the provisions in plan 2008 and the department was given to understand that it would not affect their ability to replace Professor Reeves. The committee felt that plan 2008 hires should be made with programmatic considerations in mind, however, and does not recommend increasing the number of positions in history.

Mathematics. Rotenberg replacement. Given the nature of Professor Rotenberg's teaching responsibilities and the number of majors in the program, the request for refilling this faculty line is not warranted at the present time. The math department is encouraged to consider adding a staff member in the area of math education. The visiting assistant professor position currently held by Sal Liriano should be continued for one year.

Modern Languages. Spanish. The request for an additional faculty position in Spanish is not justified by an increase in the number of majors.

Physics. The committee recommends filling Professor Greenebaum's position with a second lecturer for the present.

Recommendations on the five teacher education related positions (biological sciences, music and three from teacher ed.) were deferred until a later date.

2. lecturer positions

Interdisciplinary Studies. The committee recommends approval of the one full time position.

Modern Languages. Spanish. The committee recommends refilling this position.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM. The committee will meet again in May to consider the teacher education requests.
