Committe on Academic Planning

Report 2007-2008

 

Committee members: David Bruning, Alice Chang (Spring 2008), Doug DeVinny,  Mark Eichner, Stephen Hawk (Fall 2007), John Longeway,  David Wilson (student), Joy Wolf,   Dean Yohnk, Susan Takata (chair)

The major activities of the committee were to: 

• Review  Program Appraisal Framework.

• Several meetings focused on CAP’s charge, (i.e., academic planning, program reviews, position authorization requests).

• Full PARs were reviewed, taking into account documentation provided by  Institutional Research. Recommendations sent to the Provost as well as the requesting department chair and dean.

• In its continued attempt to make the process more transparent, CAP hosted a PAR workshop during Fall 2007. Guidelines were shared and discussed.

• The mini-PAR step was eliminated. 

• As a continuing part of the PAR review process, CAP met briefly with each department chair. Fifteen PARs were submitted. 

• Respond to program reviews; this year we reviewed documentation:

• PSYCH (continued from spring)

• MSCIS

• COMM

 

• Review proposed additions or deletions of programs; this year we reviewed documentation for the following programs:

• none

                           

This committee coordinates with Course and Curriculum Committee, the Registrar’s office, the Facilities Planning Committee, and the University Planning Council.

The chair wishes to thank all members for their time and effort in completing so much work in a timely fashion. The committee met seventeen times during the 2006-07 academic year.
