Minutes of the Course and Curriculum Committee
for April 28,2000

The meeting was called to order by S. Haller at 12:00 PM

Present: S. Haller, L. Piele, J. Schmidt, T. Hanson

1. Approval of Minutes: 11/19/99, 12/3/99, 2/9/00, 3/3/00 Approved (3,0,0)

2. Political Science: Bill Murin and Carol Tebben were present to answer questions. Lee Ross was present to comment on the request for the POLS 351 title and prerequisite change.

POLS 310, 320 - Title Changes Approved (3,0,0)

CRMJ/POLS 380 - Cross listing dropped, dropped as POLS Course Approved (3,0,0)

POLS 351 - Title and Prerequisite Change Discussion of this request centered on two issues. First, the request specifically disallows CRMJ 101 as an alternative to POLS 100 as a prerequisite to POLS 351. That is, the old prerequisite was POLS 100 or CRMJ 101, and POLS 200. The proposed new prerequisite is POLS 100 and POLS 200. Criminal Justice wanted the CRMJ 101 alternative to POLS 100 to be allowed for CRMJ majors. Second, Criminal Justice wanted the POLS 200 prerequisite dropped for CRMJ majors.

It was agreed that

1. The catalog copy for POLS 351 will be changed as requested by Political Science for the 2001-2002 catalog. However,
2. CRJM 101 will substitute for POLS 100 as a prerequisite for POL 351 for CRMJ students through fall semester 2001, and
3. CRMJ majors will continue to satisfy the POLS 200 prerequisite for taking POLS 351 through fall semester 2001. CRMJ anticipates having their own course offering to replace POLS 351 by Spring 2002.

Approved subject to the above agreement (3,0,0)
