Minutes on the Committee on Advising
for March 11, 2003

Present: Theresa Castor, Mark Eichner, Alan Goldsmith, Bryan Lewis, Megan Mullen, Brad Piazza, Kristi Schoepfer
Not Present: Oliver Hayward, Mary Power, Chris Zanowski

The meeting began officially at 12:30.

Lacking a proper speaking voice, Megan had asked Kristi to run the meeting. Kristi began by asking committee members to report findings from investigations into the advising practices of individual departments/programs.

A variety of findings were read, with some printed information also handed around. In general, the committee confirmed our hypothesis that there is a great deal of disparity among advising practices around campus. We also confirmed that there is a variety of special advising needs and situations.

A subcommittee was formed to prepare an initial draft of the report on findings and recommendations recommended by the Provost and Vice Chancellor. The subcommittee agreed to have the draft ready for review by the entire committee by the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45. The committee will meet next on Tuesday, April 8, at 12:30 in CART 233. The subcommittee on recommendations (Kristi, Bryan, Megan) will meet on Tuesday, March 25, at 12:30.
