Since the Committee had been relatively inactive for the previous few years, we felt it necessary to begin anew by identifying pressing advising-related needs on the UW-Parkside campus. In fall, we discussed various possibliities for giving advising a higher profile -- including advising mentor programs, an advising award, and mini-conferences. The Committee will revisit these and other possibilities next year. The spring semester was devoted to a single project: preparing a status of advising report for Provost Martin and her cabinet. In January, Megan Mullen (Committee chair) and Mary Power (Director of Advising) met with the Provost's Cabinet and agreed to prepare this report. During the semester then Committee members surveyed the various departments and programs on advising practices and ultimately prepared a report identifying both existing strengths and needs.
