The meeting was called to order by convener Anne Gurnack at noon in Rm.
275A Molinaro.
Members in attendance: Dana Oswald, Annette Wiesner, Trudy Biehn, Jamie
Cheatham, Anne Gurnack.
The following agenda items were addressed at this
meeting.
1. One member of the group requested that the committee be informed of
the composition of the search committee for the Director of Advising and
Career Development. The chair will request that list from Doug Devinny.
2. The group continued the review of the advising task force report. The
following priorities were suggested by the group as a list that could be helpful to the new director:
* More advising information should be sent electronically and “note” screens added.
* Staffing issues should continue to be resolved.
* Academic skills classes should be completed at the end of 60 credits.
* Faculty should receive training about advising in academic skills
and general education courses.
* Students should be able to access the DARS reports.
* There should be more emphasis on advising during Freshman
Orientation.
3. The group finalized the notice for the upcoming Advising award. Jamie
will design a poster which will be displayed throughout campus. The chair
will send out an email notice to students, faculty and staff.
4. The chair sought nominations for the new freshman early warning project. Anne Gurnack and Annette Wiesner volunteered. These names will be forwarded to Gerald Greenfield.
The meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for March 26th after the spring break at noon in Rm. 367 Moln.
