The CRCA met on Friday, September 22, 2000 with all membera attending. Andrew McLean, Professor of English, was reelected Chair.
The CRCA discussed sponsoring a grants writing workshop by someone from the Wisconsin Humanities Council which McLean will arrange.
In addition: the CRCA will host a faculty get-to-gether on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2:00-4:00, probably in the Union 104-106. Jayavel Sounderpandian, this year's winner of the CRCA award, will speak on "My Life as a Scholar."
Please mark your calenders and encourage colleagues, especially junior colleagues, to attend. This is one of the few moments in our university life where we can celebrate the intellectual and creative life to which we are dedicated, and have an opportunity to socialize with our colleagues.
The CRCA was pleased to start of the year with $25,000, but it is clear that
with the growing numbers of younger faculty at UWP, their will be an increasing
need for substantially more annual CRCA funding. To this end the CRCA directed
the Chair to explore ways of establishing a research foundation or endowment
of some kind that might ensure ongoing support for scholary
and creative work at UWP. The Chair agreed to talk with John Hanson as starters.
Nina mentioned some new WARF initiatives that will include UWP, especially in
projects that have potential patent possibilities (information about this appeared
on-line after our meeting).
Prior to discussing grant applications the CRCA reviewed its criteria concering the quality of the proposal, faculty rank (giving initial preference to junior faculty), and agreeing to limit awards initially to no more than $1,000.00. The following awards were made:
Herbert Colston $800.00
Fay Akindes $700.00
Pat Goldsmith $650.00
"George" Li $500.00
Fred Monardi $200.00
Simaon Akindes $200.00
Alexander McNair $400.00

Carol Tebben $500.00
