Minutes of the Committee on Research & Creative Activity
for February 8, 2002

CRCA had a joint meeting with the Steering Committee of the Institute for Community Based Learning (ICBL). The meeting was held in the Orchard Room, Tallent Hall at noon on 2/8/02.

In attendance(CRCA members): Bayuzick, Khan, Mclean, Perdikaris, and Wood.

The Committees discussed the details regarding a Research Fair with an emphasis on community based learning to be held this semester. There was extended discussion on whether all types of research could be included, what constitutes community based learning, how the papers to be presented would be selected, what types of papers would be presented so as to be comprehensible to scholars in others disciplines, and whether the Fair would include poster presenatations.

The tentative date for the Fair was set at May 3. It was decided that the charge for the selecting the papers to be presented would rest primarily with CRCA and two members from the ICBL - Norman Cloutier and Anne Statham. Follow up meetings would be aranged over electronic mail.

At 1:20, CRCA moved to the Prairie Room in Tallent Hall and continued its meeting. Of the proposals considered the following were tabled for consideration at a next meeting:

Alan Clarke & Oko Elechi - research expense and conference travel
Alexander Lichtman - conference travel
John Skalbeck - equipment purchase
Judith Tucker-Snider - conference travel

The following proposals were acted on and awards of the following amounts made:

Suresh Chalasani - $1000 for conference travel to Italy
Herbert Colston - $797 for conference travel to England
Susan Funkenstein - $800 for conference travel to Philadelphia
Yanick St. Jean - $183 for campus research meeting expenses
Paul Mohazzabi - $700 for research travel expenses
Zhemin Wang - $750 for conference travel to Hawaii

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 PM.
