Committee on Research and Creative Activity
Annual Report 2004-05

Committee members: Fay Akindes, Dennis Bayuzick, Joy Wolf, Zhaohui Li (chair), Timothy Fossum, Robert Sasso, Laurie Taylor

The major activities of the committee were to:

• Provide proposal evaluation and fund to qualified proposals to support their research and creative activities. A large number of proposals were received during 04-05 year and 38 persons with 41 proposals were funded. The average funding level per person was $656. The total budget was exhausted in February, 2005.

• Provide review on CRCA award nominees and recommendation of CRCA award to the chancellor. There were four nominees in total. The selection was based on individual ranking of the nominees in the following categories: Quality; Originality; Impact on Field; Continuing Productivity; Contribution to overall research environment at UWP and an Overall Ranking. David Higgs and Sylvia Beyer were chosen as the recipients of the CRCA Award for 2004-05.

• Provide CRCA showcase lecture series given by past CRCA awardees and by faculty members from different disciplines. Dr. Daphne Pham, recipient of the 2003-2004 Research and Creativity Award gave a talk titled "The Tale of Two Genes". A talk on “ Restorative Justice – An African Model” was given by Dr. Oko Elechi, Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice, followed by “The Everyday Lives of Transgendered Sex Workers in The Netherlands” by Dr. Katherine Gregory, Assistant Professor, Communication, and “Precambrian Basement Topography in Southeastern Wisconsin”, by Dr. John Skalbeck, Assistant Professor, Geosciences
