Minutes of the Committee on Research & Creative Activity
for March 7, 2000

The CRCA met on March 7, 2000 from 3:30-5:45 p.m. All members present except Susan Haller.

The CRCA discussed research funding proposals in order of professorial rank: Assistant Professors, Assoicate Professors, Full Professors. We had approximately $11,000 left to disperse which reflects an additional $5,000 from our original funding. Without this additional funding we would not have been able to fund as many proposals as we did. (We awarded just over $5,000, for example, to assistant professors this round.)

These final decisions also reflect discussion of proposals by full professors received earlier but put on hold by the CRCA in order to give first priority to junior faculty needs.

NOTE APRIL 13:
The Chair announced that the next CRCA sponsored Faculty Gathering is on April 13, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Union 104-106 at which Assistant Professors Fay Akindes (Communication) and Herbert Colston (Psychology) will make short presentations about their research and how CRCA has helped move them along in their work. Last semester Don Kummings gave an interesting talk about his 30 years of reasearch on Walt Whitman. Announcements for this event will go out at the end of the month. Refreshments will be served. CRCA committee members are asked to encourage all faculty to attend.

NEXT CRCA MEETING:
CRCA will meet again before the end of the term to discuss what to do next year to further faculty research support. Anne Statham, for example, has asked us to co-sponsor another faculty research symposium with emphasis on community-student-based research. We might also consider inviting NEH, NSF, and private foundation representatives to come and hold workshops and pep talks to promote faculty grantspersonship.
