The Committee on Teaching & Learning met on Friday, January 19, 2001, in Wyllie 271 at noon.
Present: Jerry Greenfield, Laura Gellott, Sharon Eaves, Roby Rajan, FayAkindes.
GRANT REVIEW
Paul Boyer's grant proposal for the UW-System's PK-16 Initiative was distributed
for review. Comments should be emailed to Fay by Tuesday, Jan. 23.
ACCREDITATION
Laura will report to the Accreditation Committee on the COTL's contribution
to the report.
SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE
ON TEACHING & LEARNING
The Conference will be held on Friday, April 20, pending no major- event conflicts.
Fay will check with Dave Buchanan.
The Committee decided to follow last year's conference as a model, but will begin the conference with a plenery keynote address followed by three concurrent sessions, cocktails and dinner. Reports from each session will be given at the dinner to continue the discussion.
Conference theme: "Teaching
& Learning in a Changing World." The three concurrent sessions will
address
1) Students (Who are we teaching?)
2) Curriculum (What should we be teaching?)
3) Methodology (How are we teaching?).
Randy Bass was proposed as the keynote speaker. Fay will contact him regarding his availability and fee requirement. Jerry will meet with Ron Singer and the Chancellor regarding the budget. Laura will investigate room availability. Sharon will organize door prizes. Jerry will handle catering. Roby and Fay will work on invitations and programs.
Two subsequent meetings were scheduled: Friday, Jan. 26, noon, and Friday, Feb. 12, noon, in Wyllie 269.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15.
