Minutes of the First Year Experience Committee
for November 28, 2006

 

Faculty Staff Lounge, 12:30-2:00 PM

Attendees:  Lori Allen, Seif Dana, Mary Louise Edwards, Christine Evans, Damian Evans, Michael Gurtman, Kong Lee (student), DeAnn Possehl, Theron Snell, and Leo Zaibert

Minutes from November 14 were corrected to include the meeting location and time.  The Minutes were then approved as corrected.

Mary Louise and DeAnn provided an overview of the J Drive which contains a folder for usage by the First Year Committee.  The Committee’s folder is located in the Campus Info main folder.  Committee members were encouraged to check their access to the folder and to report and problems to either the help desk or Mary Louise. 

Mary Louise provided a copy of the Phase II Assessment plan.  Concerns were raised regarding the wording of the plan and it was agreed that the Committee would revisit the wording as time permits. 

In the area of New Business, the following subgroups were created:

Conditional Admits –DeAnn (team leader), Mary Louise, Seif and Theron

University Seminar – Leo, Lori (team leader), and Theron

Honors Program – Anne, Damian, and Mary Louise (team leader)

Peer Mentoring – Dean, Kong, Mary Louise (team leader), and Michael

Campus Connections – Chris and Leo

Subgroups are free to invite others to participate in their work. 

The First Year Conference was discussed and members were encouraged to consider attending if their schedule permits. 

The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, December 12 at 12:30 pm.
