Minutes of the First Year Experience Governance Committee
for September 26, 2008

Present: DeAnn Possehl, Vera Kolb-Gregory, Michael Gurtman, Michael Seredycz, Mary Louise Edwards, Damian Evans

• Membership Update:

• Chris Evans has resigned from the committee. Michael Gurtman will follow up regarding appointment.

• PSGA has been asked to appoint two student representatives. 

• Committee Chair:

• Michael Gurtman has agreed to serve as interim chair. 

• Meeting Times:

• Discussed Wednesdays at 8am or 12 noon. DeAnn Possehl will check with Dean Yohnk regarding his availability.  

• Introduction of guests:

• Mary Louise Edwards introduced to new Academic Advisors who will focus on Success Academy and Raising Academic Performance Program (Den Duncan and Amy MacDonald) 

• Updates:

• Ranger Welcome

• Approximately 700 attendees

• Initial feedback was positive

• Currently compiling program data 

• FYE Workshops and Newsletter

• Copies handed out to committee 

• Success Academy

• 3 Learning Communities (60 students) participating in fall 

• Phi Eta Sigma Induction is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27th 

• Summer Bridge Program

• Damian Evans reported that 21 students participated in 3 week residential bridge program. Students are participating in a learning community in the fall. 

• Academic Program Search for FYE  -Mary Louise Edwards reported committee in progress of reviewing application. 

• Future

• Need to forward proposal for academic year schedule change

• Need to identify potential general education classes for spring semester learning communities.
