The Graduate Studies Committee Met on 12/12/00 at 3:30 PM in MOLN 275
In attendance were Khan and Olsen. Thomson and Wang participated through discussion and votes over e-mail.
1. The first item considered was Angenline McArthur's response to BUS 741. This was passed out at the meeting. She wrote that changing the class from 3 to 2 credits would not significantly alter the material covered. The basic theoretical material would be the same while the number of cases covered and any overlap with the Organizational Behavior class would be reduced. Committee members were satisfied with the response.
2. The request for curricular change for COMM 702 Organizational Communication which added Instructor Consent required to the prerequisites was approved on the understanding that the instructor, Theresa Castor, wished to counsel enrolling students appropriately.
3. Next the catalog copy for the Master of Science in Applied Molecular Biology was considered.
The following recommendations for editorial changes were compiled from suggestions given by members:
The committee approved the catalog copy subject to editorial corrections.
4. Finally, the catalog copy for the MBA program was considered.
It was found that several
courses are listed under "Graduate Courses" (BUS 528, 532, 556, 558,
and many 600 level courses. It is not listed earlier whether these constitute
foundations, core, or elective courses and need to be listed in one of these
three areas. Other courses such as BUS 713, 719, 733, 735, 746, 754, 755, 776,
786 were suspected to be electives but were not listed anywhere in the program
courses. It was suggested that electives be listed. Also, it was suggested that
courses from other
departments that were part of the MBA program (e.g. Communication or Economics
courses) shoudl also be included in the list of courses.
As far as individual course listings, BUS 528 was found to list this prerequisite: Not open to students sho have taken MIS 328 or equiv This was repeated again in the body of the course description. The committee's suggestion was that this sentence be removed from the body of the course description. This suggestion applies to BUS 556, 558, 624, 635, 637.
The Committee approved the MBA catalog copy subject to its meeting the above suggested revisions.
The meeting adjourned at 4:20 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Farida Khan,
Chair
