1. Scott Thomson was selected as committee chair.
2. Discussed Proposal for Authorization to Implement the Master of Science in Science Teaching
a. Paul Boyer, author of the proposal, joined the meeting to answer questions.
b. Committee members asked for clarification and made recommendations to strengthen the proposal as follows:i. Student learning outcomes. The proposal did not detail these, rather referenced published standards and guidelines. The committee suggested adding these as an appendix.
ii. The proposal should give more details about distance education modalities (internet, CD-ROM, etc).
iii. The plan for program review, i.e. when program reviews occur and who will conduct them should be included in the proposal
iv. Assessment of community support for the program would be strengthened with letters of support from school districts.
v. Advisory Committee. Addition of community members would strengthen this committee.
vi. Possibility of existing courses meeting the needs for the proposed course, Introductory Technology Module I.
vii. Underrepresented groups. The proposal should address ways in which the new program will benefit these.
viii. Personnel. The proposal should identify the faculty who will teach program courses (by adding a column to Table 1?) and be responsible for evaluating theses.
ix. Budget. Itemized resources are less than program costs. The proposal should explain how program costs will be covered.
x. Projections on degrees granted. These projections seem optimistic.
