Minutes of the Graduate Studies Committee
for November 18, 2002

Present: Tim Fossum, Zhaohui Li, Scott Thomson, Lisa Johnson, Brad Piazza

1. Brad Piazza presented curricular and catalog changes proposed for the Master of Business Administration program. The following were approved by the committee:

a. Change of course number prefix for graduate level courses from BUS to MBA
b. Increase number of elective credits from 14 to 16. This is in response to a change in a required course from 4 to 2 credits (see below). Total credits for the degree are maintained at 32.
c. Delete BUS courses 528, 532, 556, 624, 625, and 637. These are cross-listed with undergraduate courses that no longer fit in with the format or objectives of the MBA program.
d. Change course numbers for BUS 742 (to MBA 714) and BUS 743 (to MBA 715) so that the 742 and 743 course numbers are available for future course offerings.
e. Add MBA 716, Project Management, a new required course that will replace deleted required course BUS 795.
f. Catalog description change for MBA 722.
g. Add MBA courses 723, 724, 725, 726, 727, 728, 734, 736, 744, 745, 747, 748, 753, 756, 757, 758, 759. Most of these have already been offered as 790 courses. They are all 2-credit, 8-week electives that are offered occasionally. Current staff are sufficient to cover these courses.
h. Change MBA 746 and 796 to bring them in line with the 2-credit, 8-week electives format.
i. Catalog copy pending the following

i. Fix typo in section heading, “Graduate Course (BUS)” change to “Graduate Course (MBA)”
ii. Fix typo in description for MBA 715, “Prereq: MBA 742, MBA 712” change to “Prereq: MBA 712, MBA 714”
iii. Edit style of catalog descriptions such that the first sentence is a sub-title rather than a complete sentence. For example, “This course teaches the use of ITT tools within a management context” change to “Use of ITT tools within a management context”
