Information Resources Committee
Annual Report 2003-2004
Committee Members: Lester McCann (chair), Dennis Kaufman, Mary Lenard, John Longeway, Gwen Miller, Al Crist (non-voting),
A. Morris (student).
The IRC met twice in the fall of 2003 (October 6th and December 12th). The committee did not meet during the spring of 2004 as there was no business to consider.
Issues before the committee this year:
-
The library sought the committee's advice on the library's "weeding" project. The goals of the project include the removal of damaged, duplicated, or (technologically) outdated resources. The committee members offered suggestions on how to keep the faculty and instructional staff members informed about the need for this project and how to ensure that materials deemed essential remain in the collection.
-
The library also sought the advice of the committee on budgetary matters. Specifically, the library wanted to allow several
expensive and lightly-used periodical subscriptions to lapse so that money could be made available for new monograph acquisitions. Again, as these are resources that may be critical for the current and future research and educational efforts of the faculty and instructional staff, the committee offered advice to the library on how to appropriately manage the selection of periodicals.
-
Committee members were urged to attend as many of the December interviews of candidates for the Director of Computer and Network Services position as possible. The chair was able to meet with all of the candidates.
