Minutes of the Lectures and Fine Arts Committee
for September 21, 2001

Present: T. Bell, M. Gurtman, C. Lindner, N. Sicuro. Absent: V. Gregory S. McGlaughlin

The meeting convened at 12 noon.

Minutes of the meeting of April 6, 2001 were accepted.

Michael Gurtman was elected chair.

The chair reported that the committee's budget for 2001-2002 is again $6000.

The chair distributed copies of the committee report to the Faculty Senate for 2000-2001. Procedures from last year were discussed, and will generally be followed again this year.

The following proposals were approved in the amounts indicated:

· Lecture on Human Longevity (Mayer): $500

· Lecture on Contempory Art Criticism (Bayuzick & Snyder): $125

· Address on Wisconsin Environmental Issue (Li): $240

The chair will ask Mayer if he would consider charging a nominal admission fee for the Human Longevity lecture, and then rebating a portion of the proceeds to LFA. In the future the chair will screen received proposals for honoraria above $400-$500, and suggest that the applicant(s) charge a nominal admission fee, some of which would be rebated to LFA. (The assumption is that such events may be a popular draw.)

The next meeting will be on Friday, October 26 at 2 pm in MOLN 275A.

The meeting adjourned at 12:35 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Michael Gurtman
