It was agreed that an informal PRC/junior faculty informational meeting would best be scheduled for the Spring semester. G. Greenfield mentioned that the Teaching Center will be holding a meeting for junior faculty in October at which PRC members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
It was agreed that the Chair should schedule a meeting with Department Chairs for a discussion of PRC's expectations regarding the content of tenure/promotion dossiers and files.
It was agreed to postpone the committee's discussion of any revisions in PRC Guidelines until members have had an opportunity to review the newly revised UWPF 6.01 Criteria for Personnel Decisions.
The committee discussed a proposal from Chancellor Keating that the continued exceptionally high productivity of some full professors should be honored and recognized in some way. The committee strongly supports the idea. While no firm recommendations were arrived at by the committee, members expressed the view that the honor should not be considered as simply the next step in a promotion ladder but rather a highly selective distinction. In that light, PRC may not be the best venue for selecting faculty for this honor. Some members felt that a selection committee consisting of the Chancellor, Provost, Deans and a small number of faulty would be appropriate. In any case, nothing like the increasingly voluminous tenure/promotion documentation should be required of candidates.
It was agreed that the next meeting would be October 15 at 2:00pm in 262 CART.
The meeting adjourned at 2:38pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Norm Cloutier, Chair
