The Committee met at 9:10 in 262 CART. Members present were John Buenker, Walter Feldt, Laura Gellott, Fran Kavenik, Greg Mayer, and Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes. Also present was Larry Duetsch.
While savoring both cranberry bread (Kavenik) and cranberry kringle (Gellott), the Committee approved the agenda for the October 31 meeting of the Faculty Senate.
The Committee then discussed the response of the Teacher Education Department to the proposal that the College of Arts and Sciences create a broad-based Committee on Teacher Certification (composed of faculty members from Teacher Education and from other departments in the College) to advise the Dean on matters pertaining to teacher certification. Members of the Committee reiterated their view that such an advisory committee would be in conformity with the fact that our certification programs are built upon our major/minor programs. Members also noted that such a committee would facilitate clearer communication between Teacher Education and other departments in the College. The Committee agreed to continue discussions of this proposal with the Teacher Education faculty and other parties in the College.
Professor Gellott reviewed the progress that has been made toward creation of a Provost Search and Screen Committee.
Finally, The Committee discussed faculty nominees for a search and screen committee that will seek a Director of Institutional Research and Assessment Services.
The meeting adjourned at 9:55.
