Minutes of the University Committee
for March 5, 2002

The Committee met at 2:10 in D135 MOLN. Members present were Walter Feldt, Susan Haller, Peggy James and James Kinchen. Also present was Larry Duetsch

Professor James reported that Chancellor Keating had agreed to cancellation of the Spring Faculty Meeting scheduled for March 14. She said he had also agreed that it would be appropriate to schedule a special meeting of the Faculty in mid-to-late April to discuss the NCA Accreditation Self-Study draft chapters that will have been posted on the web by that time. (Note: Several chapters have already been posted at <http://uwp.edu/staff/gov/admin/nca/drafts/drafts.cfm>. Chapter 3, which is expected to be of particular interest to faculty members, will be posted in late March; a rough draft of Chapter 4 may be posted by mid-April.)

The Committee prepared a slate of nominees for the Spring All-Faculty Elections.

Professor James suggested that Committee develop a declaration of responsibility for the promulgation of UW-P Faculty Policies and Procedures, particularly in regard to personnel matters. She said that departments, executive committees, and individual faculty members have frequently sought information from her (as University Committee Chair) about our policies and procedures. Professor James said she has offered whatever guidance she could but noted that such a responsibility has never been clearly assigned to anyone in our policies. She proposed that it be assigned to the Secretary of the Faculty as a provision of UWPF 1.11. The Committee agreed to continue discussion of this matter at its next meeting.
