The Committee met at 2:05 in D135 MOLN. Members present were Walter Feldt, Susan
Haller, Peggy James, James Kinchen, Don Kummings, and Greg Mayer. Also present
was Larry Duetsch.
The Committee discussed an enumeration of the responsibilities that are referred to in UWPF 1.11 Secretary of the Faculty. Professor James agreed to revise the draft she had prepared for this meeting so it could be circulated and discussed further at the next meeting.
The Committee discussed a set of guidelines for Winterim course proposals, developed recently by the Academic Policies Committee, at the request of the University Committee. It was noted that comparable guidelines do not exist for courses that are offered in other formats (e.g., summer, weekend, online). It was suggested that Winterim course proposals (like summer course proposals) should be solicited from the departments, not from individuals. APC could then be called upon to advise the deans in developing suitable guidelines for the evaluation of Winterim course proposals, if APC advice is needed.
The Committee briefly discussed concerns that colleagues have recently expressed about the establishment of a charter school in Racine. The Secretary of the Faculty was asked to gather more complete information about the procedures that had to be followed to establish the charter school.
The meeting adjourned at 3:15.
