The Committee met at 2:00 in D135 MOLN. Members present were Peggy James, James Kinchen, Don Kummings, Greg Mayer, and Gary Wood. Also present was Larry Duetsch.
The Committee reviewed a memo from Dean Cress regarding the nature and quality of the work done by faculty/staff members who have academic advisement responsibilities. The Dean expressed concern that people recieve appropriate credit for the work that they do as departmental advisers. The Committee agreed that the Committee on Advising should be asked to develop appropriate guidelines that the departmental executive committees can use to evaluate the work involved.
The Committee reviewed/approved drafts of the instruments that will be used to survey faculty/staff perceptions of the administrative performance of the deans and the chancellor. The Committee than discussed alternative means of tabulating/circulating the results of the survey; decisions about these matters were deferred to a future meeting.
At the request of the Chair, the Committee discussed a proposal that would require the Academic Actions Committee to seek broader input (from the Dean of Students and the Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Fiscal Affairs) about students who bring requests before the AAC. It was agreed that the proposal should be discussed at a future meeting with the members of the AAC, the Academic Actions Officer, the (aforementioned) Dean and Vice Chancellor, and the associate deans of the college and school.
The Committee then voted unanimously to go into closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(f) to review/discuss applications for the position of Secretary of the Faculty.
The meeting adjourned at 3:00.
