Call to Order - The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM by Prof Peggy James, Chair. Business - Implementation of the Resolution from the Committee on the Transition of the Education of Educators (CTEE)

In accordance with the Resolution from the CTEE, approved by the Faculty Senate on March 25, the Committee discussed potential members for the workgroup "tasked with developing an appropriately detailed proposal for this governing entity, to be submitted to the Faculty Senate early in the Fall 2003 semester."

For further information on the Resolution, see http://uwp.edu/staff/gov/senate/psf0203/cteepsf39.cfm

All members of the Teacher Education Department (TEDU) will be invited to join the workgroup. Potential members were selected from among the CTEE members, departments who have a strong relationship with TEDU and governance involvement.

Election of Chair for 2003-04

Members-elect Profs Sylvia Beyer, Chris Evans and Doug DeVinny, along with continuing members Profs James Kinchen, Gary Wood and Don Kummings elected, by acclamation, Gary Wood as committee chair for 2003-04.

Faculty Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee

The Committee selected Profs Chris Evans and Greg Mayer (convenor) to represent the UC on the committee charged with selecting the recipient for the Faculty Distinguished Service Award.

Role of the General Education Committee in the Approval of Courses to Meet the Diversity Requirement

The "Design for Diversity" curricular requirement has been in effect since 1990. The Ethnic Studies Steering Committee (ESSC) has been making recommendations concerning listing and delisting courses to meet this requirement.

PSF 50/92-93, approved by the Faculty Senate on April 20, 1993, requires that ... "all determinations reached by the ESSC under provisions of this paragraph shall be forwarded to the General Education Steering Committee (GESC) for its consent." It was agreed that this clearly meant that the ESSC could only recommend changes in diversity (DV) status of courses to the GESC which has final authority.

Another provision of PSF 50 states that .."The criteria for identifying courses which satisfy the Diversity requirement will be
developed by the ESSC, and brought to the Senate for its approval." Prof Feldt said that he could find no evidence that this had occurred.

Faculty Workload - Departmental Policies

Prof Feldt reported that virtually all of the academic departments had submitted responses concernign their implementation of the Faculty Workload Principles (PSF 11/95-96).

The Committee agreed to divide the submissions among Committee members for review.

Adjournment - The meeting adjourned at 3:55 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Walter T Feldt
