Minutes of the University Committee
for April 6, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM by Prof Gary Wood,
Chair. Present in addition were Profs Sylvia Beyer, Doug DeVinny, James
Kinchen and Don Kummings, members; and Prof Walter Feldt, Secretary of the
Faculty.

Business
========

Agenda - Faculty Senate of April 20, 2004
-----------------------------------------

The Agenda for the April 20 meeting of the Faculty Senate was
APPROVED, with contingencies. Documentation for the proposals to implement
a consortial MBA program and a certificate in mental health and proposals
on goals and implementation of general education requirements must be
submitted by the end of business on Wednesday or the items are subject to
being withdrawn.

Spring All-Faculty Elections
----------------------------

The Committee discussed the state of nominations for the
All-Faculty Election held every spring. Prof Feldt reported that more
nominees for some committees would be useful.

It was agreed to send out a list of the nominees currently
confirmed and to request nominations-at-large.

Evaluation of Administrators
----------------------------

Prof Wood reported that he had scheduled conferences with Deans
Wafa and Cress and with Chancellor Keating to discuss with them the
results of the faculty perception of administrative performance survey
conducted a year ago. Soon thereafter, a summary statement for each
administrator will be shared with the faculty and staff.

Grand Marshals - December Commencement
--------------------------------------

The Commencement Coordinator, Laura Gellott, had asked the
Committee if it had any objections to her tentative choices for grand
marshals for the BS and BA commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 16.
The Committee thought the choices were appropriate.

Executive Committee Augmentation - Computer Science - Merit Only
----------------------------------------------------------------

In order to resolve an ethics issue, the Committee approved Dean
Wafa's choices as augmented members of the Computer Science Executive
Committee for 2004-05. The additional members shall participate only in
the merit review.

Executive Committee Augmentation - Full-Professor Subcommittee - Criminal
Justice
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Committee approved Dean Cress's choices of faculty members to
augment the Criminal Justice Subcommittee of Full Professors.
