Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 3:35 PM by Prof Doug DeVinny, Chair. Present in addition were Profs Anne Statham, Mary Lenard, Frances Kavenik, Paul Mohazzabi and Chris Evans, members; and Prof Walter Feldt, Interim Secretary of the Faculty.
Business:
Meeting of the Faculty – November 3, 2005
Lacking substantive business, the Committee agreed to ask the Chancellor to cancel the Fall Faculty Meeting scheduled for November 3.
Meeting of the Faculty Senate – November 1, 2005
While no substantive business was proposed, it was agreed to hold the Mid-Fall Meeting of the Faculty Senate scheduled for November 1. The bulk of the meeting would consist of a discussion with Provost Martin concerning enrollment and budget issues.
UWS Committee on Fringe Benefits
Vice Chancellor Bill Streeter had asked the Committee for nominees for a possible upcoming vacancy on the UW System Committee on Fringe Benefits. The Committee recommended several names.
Secretary of the Faculty Position
Prof DeVinny said that he had talked to a faculty member who expressed some interest in the Secretary of the Faculty position.
Prof Feldt agreed to try to provide a position description, and it was agreed to ask the interestee to meet with the Committee.
Faculty Perceptions of Administrative Performance
The Committee remains committed to conducting a survey of administrative performance on a two-year cycle. Prof Statham had reworked several questions using the forms used in the last cycle and the Committee discussed these changes and suggested others.
It was decided to try to complete the survey process before the Thanksgiving recess. The University Governance office will distribute forms for Chancellor Keating, Provost Martin and Dean Cress to appropriate faculty and full-time teaching academic staff.
