The meeting was called to order in Moln D135 by D. DeVinny, Chair. Also attending were members C. Evans, M. Lenard, D. Rome, and A. Statham. Guests were DeAnn Possehl and Lori Allen. Evelyn Zepp was present as Secretary of the Faculty.
1) CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 3:35 P.M. by D. DeVinny, Chair.
2) MINUTES
The minutes of the meeting of Sept. 19, 2006 were approved as distributed.
3) ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Chair asked for someone to attend the Provost's Cabinet Wednesday morning. C. Evans volunteered.
4) UNFINISHED BUSINESS
a) First-Year Committee
L. Allen and d. Possehl addressed concerns they had about the draft for the First-Year Committee. Changes were agreed upon and included in the version which will go out with the Senate agenda. L. Allen and D. Possehl left the meeting at 4:20 P.M.
b) Chancellor and Provost visits: Topics
The list of topics submitted by faculty were edited and a final list drawn up. One of the questions will be submitted as a written question on the Senate agenda.
5) NEW BUSINESS
a) The request forwarded by Dean Ebeid for Augmentation of the Executive Committee of the Department of Computer Science was approved.
Members stated some concern over the fact that the members of the Colllege of Arts and Sciences requested as augmenters were already heavily into service obligations, and wondered whether augmenters should not be members of the School of Business and Technology.
b) The Senate Agenda for October 3, 2006 was approved. It was noted that no reports from committees have yet been received. There was some discussion of the proposed UWS Chapter 7 and the reactions from other campuses. Major concern focus on the issues of due process and self-incrimination. D. DeVinny will attend a faculty representatives meeting Friday Sept. 29th and so will likely have more updated information to report.
6) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
An invitation will be issued to Mr. Fujimoto to attend the Oct. 10th U.C. meeting to discuss various issues.
