The Committee identified faculty nominees for the Parking Appeals Committee. It was agreed that faculty appointments to the newly created Committee on Advising would be made at the next (October 27) meeting.
The Committee reviewed matters that they wish to discuss with the Chancellor's Cabinet on October 26, including the conferral of an honorary title on our most productive full professor(s). The Secretary of the Faculty reported that an honorary title can be conferred by the Chancellor without the approval of the Board of Regents if the title is not one that the Board already confers. He also reported that the Personnel Review Committee has discussed the matter and strongly supports the notion of doing this.
In response to Chancellor Keating's request for advice regarding Administrative Policy 54 (aka the Discrimination Policy), the Committee reviewed the Policy and agreed to recommend that it be revised to state more clearly the institutional commitment to the values of tolerance and fairness, in a positive, non-legalistic tone. Committee members expressed the hope that the new document would be written in language that is clear and accessible to students as well as to faculty and staff. The Committee agreed that the task of revising Policy 54 should be assigned to the University Diversity Committee and should be given the highest priority in the Chancellor's charge to that committee.
The meeting adjourned at
