"No more than 30 credits in physical education coursework may be counted toward graduation."

(Note that the 8 Credit Rule concerning PE activity courses remains in effect.)

Request for Response to the Safransky Standard

The University Committee recommends the following:

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Faculty Senate strongly supports the application of the principles of due process and just cause, as traditionally understood, in any case which may result in the dismissal of a tenured faculty member in the University of Wisconsin System. We view with alarm the recent adoption by the Board of Regents of the Safransky standard, which holds that a "tendency to impair...performance...or...efficiency" constitutes just cause for dismissal. This inappropriate and vague standard would undermine the principle of academic freedom that tenure is designed to protect, and we urge the Regents to repudiate it.

Copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to the Board of Regents and the President of the University of Wisconsin System.

Request for Approval of New Concentration

The Committee on Academic Planning recommends the following:

Be it RESOLVED, that the request from the Art Department for permission to implement a new concentration in Illustration is approved, as described in Agenda document 3.

Request for Entitlement to Plan a New Major

The Committee on Academic Planning recommends the following:

Be it RESOLVED, that the request from the Art Department for an entitlement to plan a new major in Digital Arts is approved, as described in Agenda document 4.

Request for Approval of New Graduation Requirement

The General Education Committee recommends the following:

Be it RESOLVED, that a new graduation requirement in Global/Non-Western Culture is approved, as described in Agenda document 5, to become effective for students who enter in Fall 2003.
