WHEREAS, Associate Professor Donna M. Carr (Mathematics) had an intense passion
for the study of mathematics (particularly set theory and logic); a great zeal
for passing mathematical knowledge on to students; an enthusiasm for encouraging
women to study mathematics and the sciences;
AND WHEREAS, Professor Carr had a tenacious strength that enabled her to keep going forward in her own unique style despite the obstacles she encountered;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the
Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Carr because she energized so many
of her colleagues and students.

Memorial Resolution: Chelvadurai Manogaran

WHEREAS, Professor Chelvadurai Manogaran (Geography) began his career as a climatologist,
and later made a remarkable transition to become an internationally known political
geographer and expert on his native Sri Lanka;
AND WHEREAS, Professor Manogaran did research in climatology and worked with the Pike River Restoration Committee before turning to Tamil/Sri Lankan issues and serving as a consultant to the U.S. Department of State after 1989;
AND WHEREAS, Professor Manogaran was active with the Tamil Nadu Foundation and produced his award-winning book, Ethnic Conflict and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka;
AND WHEREAS, Professor Manogaran served the campus as a long-term member of the International Studies Steering Committee and as Director of International Student Services;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Manogaran's record as a teacher-scholar and expresses gratitude for his exemplary service to our community.
