Resolution of Appreciation: Arthur Dudycha
PSF 7/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Arthur Dudycha (Business) taught business statistics very effectively, led the development of the MBA program, and was the chief architect of many departmental and university policies;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Dudycha was a member (at one time or another) of virtually every major departmental and university committee, and often served as Grand Marshal for commencement;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate expresses gratitude for Professor Dudycha's many services to the campus community and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Gerald Fowler
PSF 8/02-03

WHEREAS, Associate Professor Gerald Fowler (Geology) refered to himself as a "born micropaleontologist";

AND WHEREAS, Professor Fowler developed and taught the Oceanography course for many years and made it into an extremely popular general education course;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Fowler was committed to making field experiences available to students and led many field trips to western, tropical, and other exotic locales;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Fowler's record as a dedicated teacher and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Ben Greenebaum
PSF 9/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Ben Greenebaum (Physics) was a member of a successful interdisciplinary research team for more than 25 years and has been Editor-in-Chief of a worldwide journal;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Greenebaum was an able administrator, serving in roles such as Acting Provost/Vice Chancellor, Dean of the School of Science and Technology, and Chair of the Department of Physics;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate expresses gratitude for Professor Greenebaum's exemplary service to the campus community and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Richard Keehn
PSF 10/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Richard Keehn (Economist) brought both his academic accomplishments and his practical experience to the classroom;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Keehn was a highly respected economic historian who served as President of the Economic and Business Historical Society;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Keehn did outstanding work in the community, offering commentary on economic events, directing the Economic Education and Research Institute, and serving as the President of the Wisconsin Insurance Association;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Keehn's record as a teacher-scholar, expresses gratitude for his service to the community, and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Peter Martin
PSF 11/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Peter Martin used his gift for story-telling and his wide-ranging knowledge of literature to establish himself as one of the most popular English professors, receiving a Stella Gray Teaching Excellence Award and serving for many years as an advisor to new freshmen;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Martin served for many years on UW System committees that created and maintained the English placement tests and coordinated library functions for all campuses;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Martin founded and still directs The Friends of the Library, an organization that raises funds for the library and also presents many intellectually stimulating programs;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Martin's fine record as a teacher, expresses gratitude for his exemplary service to the campus community, and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Frank Mueller
PSF 12/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Frank Mueller made a major contribution in academic advising and prepared many music students for graduate school;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Mueller introduced hundreds of students to music through the appreciation and world of music courses and brought the joy of opera to students and the community;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Mueller shared his conducting expertise with choruses in Chicago and Milwaukee;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Mueller's record as a teacher-scholar and wishes him the very best in retirement.

PSF 13/02-03

WHEREAS, Associate Professor John Murphy was a founder of the Art Department who was always popular with students;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Murphy added metalsmithing to his primary medium (ceramics) toward the end of his career, there by expanding the offerings students could choose from and adding depth to the curriculum,

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Murphy's record as a teacher-artist and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Dwayne Olsen
PSF 14/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Dwayne Olsen (Teacher Education) distinguished himself as a dedicated and effective teacher as an outstanding citizen, particularly through his involvement with the Racine Unified School District Board, the Racine Interfaith Coalition, and the Racine Public Library Board of Trustees;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Olsen was instrumental in establishing the Constitution Bowl, an event that still brings hundreds of Wisconsin high school students to the UW-Parkside campus each year;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Olsen's record as an outstanding teacher of teachers, expresses gratitude for his many services to the community, and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Curtis Richards
PSF 15/02-03

WHEREAS, Associate Professor Curtis Richards (Geography) began his career in 1967 at the UW Center in Kenosha and was always an enthusiastic instructor, who especially enjoyed leading the summer course at the Pigeon Lake Field Station;

AND WHEREAS, his teaching/research emphasized urban geography , American railroads, and the changing role of rail transportation in the American economy;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Richards as a teacher-scholar and wishes him the very best in retirement.

Resolution of Appreciation: Michael Rotenberg
PSF 16/02-03

WHEREAS, Professor Michael Rotenberg (Mathematics) is an English gentleman with a special style of teaching that attracted students to his classes, students who say that, were it not for him, they would not have made it through Calculus;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Rotenberg demonstrated a passion for bike riding by never letting rain, sleet or snow deter him from his ride to school;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Rotenberg's record as a dedicated teacher and wishes him the very best in retirement.

AND WHEREAS, as a sedimentologist, Professor Shea was a strong proponent of inquiry-based laboratory exercises for his students;

AND WHEREAS, Jim chaired the Geology Department and gave UW-Parkside national recognition through his activities as editor of the Journal of Geoscience Education;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate pays tribute to Professor Shea's record as a teacher-scholar and wishes him the very best in retirement.

WHEREAS, Professor Constantine Stathatos (Spanish) was repeatedly nominated for the University's Teaching Excellence Award;

AND WHEREAS, Professor Stathatos established himself as an internationally renowned scholar of the Spanish Golden Age, with an extensive record of major publications;
