       Resolution of Appreciation: Evelyn Zepp

PSF 48/08-09

WHEREAS  Evelyn Zepp taught at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside since her arrival in September of 1977, the sole faculty member in French for many of those years, and

WHEREAS  she was instrumental in introducing national proficiency standards into the language programs of the Modern Languages Department, and took a keen interest in many curricular revisions and assessment initiatives within the department and across campus, and

WHEREAS  she was a recipient of  the Women’s Center “In Her Footsteps” award in 1991 and 1999, was a nominee for the Stella Gray Teaching Excellence award, and has touched the lives of several generations of French students at Parkside, and  

WHEREAS  she served as Modern Languages Department chair continuously from 1991 through 2003, and served as chair of faculty governance committees such as Academic Policies, Course and Curriculum, and Academic Actions, and

WHEREAS  she served on many other campus-wide committees, such as Committee on Academic Planning, General Education, Lecture and Fine Arts, as well as steering committees for Programs such as Humanities, International Studies, Women’s Studies, and Extended Degree, and

WHEREAS  she served the University of Wisconsin System by redesigning the Spring Semester in France Program for the Urban Corridor Consortium in 1980-81, by co-directing and then directing the program, and by working as a member of the Foreign Language Placement Test Project, French Test Writing committee (1984-1988), and

WHEREAS  she contributed to the scholarship on Albert Camus and Julia Kristeva through publication of articles, conference papers, book reviews, and by serving as an anonymous reader for the journal PMLA, and

WHEREAS  she was committed to her students and colleagues, serving as advisor and mentor, and

WHEREAS  she worked tirelessly for her students and for the university community during her 31 years at Parkside, serving her final three years as Secretary of the Faculty while teaching an overload of French courses (a testament to her devotion to her students and the institution),

BE IT RESOLVED  that the Faculty Senate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside expresses its profound appreciation for Evelyn Zepp's many contributions to the university community and wishes her all the best for a long and fulfilling retirement.
