Hello! I am David Bruce, an assistant professor of history here at UW-Parkside. A native of Racine, I attended UW-P for a short period during the early 1980s. After a brief military stint, I returned to the area to work for a local corporation. While doing so, I returned to school, receiving my B.A. from Carthage College in 1996, and my Ph.D. from Marquette University in 2009. I began teaching in 2002 and left the corporate world two years later to devote myself to teaching full-time. I have been fortunate to be a part of the UW-Parkside community since 2006.
My primary area of interest and research is early modern European history. I teach courses on Western Civilization, the history of England, and the Second World War. Presently, I am developing courses on Medieval Europe and the First World War, and hope to conduct them soon.
I have always been interested in how societies interacted. All aspects are interesting, especially the minutiae of everyday life. When not on campus, I have pursued interests that have helped me in furthering my understanding. One such hobby is historical reenacting, which I’ve participated in since 2000. Like many such hobbyists, my interests transcend any one time period, but as of late I have been focused on social life in America during the Second World War. My participation in reenacting events has curtailed in recent years, but as you can see, I still make it to a function or two when time permits.
