I teach classes in World History, North Africa, the Middle East and Islamic World, imperialism, and migration to and within Europe. My dissertation focused on the Jewish population of Algeria during French colonial rule (1830-1962), and I am currently working on turning my dissertation into a book. I am also developing an article on the odyssey of members of an Algerian Jewish family through Spain, South America, Paris, the Nazi death camps, and Louisiana.

I am originally from the outer suburbs of London, and did my BA at the University of Keele in the north of England. I then went on to graduate school at the Université Charles de Gaulle-Lille III, France, and most recently at the University of Iowa, where I earned my Ph.D.

I enjoy spending time with my family, cycling, watching Cubs baseball and Welsh rugby, cooking vegetarian food, and listening to all kinds of music, from punk rock to classical Arabic music.

I also host "Global Taxi," a world music show broadcast on WIPZ Radio 88.5 FM, Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m.

Feel free to email me with any questions or to drop by 129 Molinaro.
