Transfer Information and Forms for State Employees
1. What is a Transfer?
For state civil service purposes, a transfer is movement of a permanent employee to a different position assigned to a classification having the same or counterpart pay range as their current classification and for which the employee is qualified to perform the work. "Transfer" should not be confused with "promotion" or "demotion." Hourly pay upon transfer varies per situation. Contact the UW-Parkside Human Resources Office for detailed information.
2. Must I serve a new probationary period if I have already completed one in my "old" position?
• If you stay in the same employing unit within your agency - no.
• If you move to a new employing unit or agency, it is up to the appointing authority - in most cases - yes.
note: the probationary period may be shortened at the discretion of the appointing authority.
3. How may I obtain a transfer?
- Discuss the matter with your supervisor and/or department manager. They may be able to help you find a new position in your present department, or to suggest other departments or offices where your skills may be needed.
- Contact the Personnel Managers of the agencies where you would like to work, so that they will know of your qualifications and availability. Ask them to consider you for any vacancies occurring in their agencies.
- State employees interested in transfer to UW-Parkside must complete the following two forms:
- Transfer Request (on-line entry and submission)
or
Transfer Request (rev 3-15-04) (form to print)
and
- UW-Parkside Employment Application
For specific information on pay, probationary periods, carryover of benefits, etc., upon transfer, consult the Personnel manager of the agency where you are presently employed or where you are seeking employment.
