ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Assistant Professor of Theatre (History, Literature, Directing focus)

The Theatre Arts Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for a full-time (9 month) tenure track faculty member in Theatre, with a focus in theatre history and literature, multicultural theatre, and directing beginning August 2013

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
- MFA in directing, acting or dramaturgy OR PhD in an academic area of theatre
- Two or more years of proven successful undergraduate teaching experience in areas of expertise
- Experience directing in an academic institution 

Preferred:
- Ability to teach , advise, and mentor students in a variety of areas
- Interest and experience in assessment
- Experience teaching some area of diversity
- Experience in teaching Theatre Appreciation and/or other theatre general education courses
- Previous experience in academic advising and mentoring of undergraduate students in a liberal arts theatre program (BA/BFA)
- Professional directing experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach a full array of theatre history and literature courses, along with multicultural theatre and directing courses (see below) as well as theater courses in the general education curriculum. Direct a minimum of one main stage production and one staged reading. Advising and mentoring of student directors and dramaturges, as well as those interested in pursuing further education in academic theatre. Perform curriculum review, assessment, and leadership in student learning. Provide academic and career advising and mentoring of students in various areas of interest. Participate in weekly department and production meetings (averaging 3+ hours per week), as well as monthly company meetings. Participate in annual academic and artistic assessments of all student company members. Participate in theatre program entry auditions and interviews. Work with department in university and community outreach. Assist with recruitment of students, especially in the areas of performance and directing. Other department and production company assignments shared by all faculty and staff.

Theatre History and Literature to 1660
Theatre History and Literature from 1660-1915
Theatre History and Literature from 1915-Today
Contribute to Sophomore and Senior Seminar Capstone Courses (in areas of expertise)
Multicultural Theatre in America
Theatre Appreciation and/or other theatre general education courses;
Practicum courses related to acting in productions
Other academic courses in areas of expertise, including diversity, gender and related topics.
 

SPECIAL NOTES:

SALARY:  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The University of Wisconsin System provides a liberal benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
