Assistant Professor, Philosophy - Ethics

The Politics, Philosophy, and Law Department at the University of Wisconsin is looking to fill a 9-month Assistant Professor tenure-track position beginning fall 2012.   The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Philosophy, and other courses primarily in Ethics. The person in this position will teach Applied Ethics courses such as criminal justice ethics, biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, business ethics, political & social ethics on a regular basis. The standard teaching load for all full time faculty is 21 credits per academic year, as indicated in UWPF policy.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for 21 credit teaching load.
• Teaching courses, advising students and independent studies.
• Maintain an active research program.
• Service to the department and university; community service related to area of research.

Qualifications:

Required:

• ABD in Philosophy will be considered for a one-year terminal appointment as a Lecturer, with conversion to tenure track Assistant Professor if all requirements for the Ph.D. are successfully completed by August 2013.
• Experience and evidence of excellence in teaching
• Publication record an asset; in its absence, potential for a successful research

Preferred: 

• Ph.D. in Philosophy prior to appointment
• Commitment to teaching a non-traditional, first generation, and racially & economically diverse student population.

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System provides a benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
