Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychology

UW-Parkside currently enrolls 5,300 students, many of whom are first-generation and nontraditional. UW-Parkside is the most ethnically diverse campus in the University of Wisconsin System with more than 20% students of color and 26% faculty of color. Position Summary:
The Psychology department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor position to begin August 2012. This position is a 9-month academic staff position and may receive a series of three one-year contracts, and at the conclusion of the third year may be granted a three-year rolling contract. The successful applicant will teach Introduction to Psychological Science, clinical courses such as Interviewing, Counseling Psychology, Theories of Psychotherapy, and Externship, possibly Psychology of Personality, and other courses depending on the needs of the department. The expected teaching load is four courses per semester plus supervision of the externship.
Additional responsibilities include: student advising, curriculum development, oversight of student placement in externships, attending departmental meetings, holding regular office hours, and providing outreach services to the Department, University or Community. The new hire will jointly oversee the Certificate Program in Mental Health Skills. Research activities are encouraged but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Broad knowledge of Clinical Psychology to teach undergraduates.
- Knowledge in scientific methods.
- Ability to integrate community-based learning concepts and practice into pedagogy to enhance the student experience by exposing them to a professional environment.
- Ability to supervise externships.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with students, staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to provide up-to-date student advising related to Clinical Psychology.
- Sensitivity to, or experience in, working with a diverse, multicultural population.
- Ability to engage in appropriate instructor-student relationships and interactions and collegial conduct.
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D.or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology by the beginning of the hiring period
- Teaching experience in Psychology
- Practical clinical experience
- Licensed or license-eligible in Wisconsin
- Preparedness to use community-based learning pedagogical approaches in courses and/or supervision of students
- Experience teaching clinical or counseling courses
- Experience teaching students of diverse and multicultural backgrounds.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System provides a liberal benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
