Assistant Professor, Anthropology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology position from people with extensive expertise in Cultural Anthropology, with a global/international orientation, and a regional focus on Africa, Asia, Latin America, or Oceania. The position begins in August 2008. The ability to teach Introduction to Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Anthropological Theory, a Peoples of the World course, and Qualitative and/or Ethnographic Research Methods course is essential. Successful candidates must also be able to teach two or more of the courses in the following areas: Non-Western Art, Economic Exchange Systems (Economic Anthropology), Applied Anthropology, and/or large global processes, such as Migration, and Development and Change. These courses are essential for the Anthropology Concentration within the Sociology/Anthropology major on our campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
A Ph.D. in Anthropology is required at the time of appointment. ABD will be considered for a one-year terminal appointment as a Lecturer with conversion to tenure track Assistant Professor if all requirements for the Ph.D. have been successfully completed by June, 2009. Applicants must be committed to teaching excellence and active research. Applicants must have demonstrated ability to teach the courses listed above, and must have strong evidence of research potential and/or productivity, such as an active research program.

Preferred:
Ability to teach Statistics and/or Cross-Cultural Encounters is also desired; the department also has a strong preference for those who can provide students with community based learning experiences and whose background and experience prepare them to work effectively with diverse student and faculty populations. Demonstrated experience in working effectively with students and staff from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred.
