Head of Archives and Area Research Center
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library invites applications for the position of the Head of Archives and Area Research Center (ARC). The Head of Archives and ARC is responsible for administering, developing, organizing, processing, and providing appropriate access to materials held in the Area Research Center and University Archives. This position also establishes policies and procedures allowing for efficient operation of the University’s records management program and provides reference and instruction to students, faculty, staff, and community users related to Area Research Center and University Archives resources. Reporting to the Director of Library, this position is expected to serve on Library, University, and UW System committees and foster communication and contribute to a collaborative work environment within the library. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a professional manner, serving as a model representative of the University and the Library. This is a 12-month academic staff appointment and has supervisory responsibilities. The successful candidate will be hired at the rank of Archivist-II.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science, History or related field
- Significant professional archives work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival management, records management, special collections and digital preservation issues
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Experience providing reference services related to archives
- Ability to supervise
- Strong public service ethics
- Ability to work collaboratively or in teams
- Experience working with a diverse, multicultural population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum four years professional Archives work experience
- Archival Coursework
- Knowledge of current archival descriptive standards (DACS) or Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with web page design
