Welcome to UW-Parkside Education Abroad!

Increasingly, as students realize that we must be prepared for the challenges of living in a global society, they recognize the advantages to studying abroad.

Students from UW-Parkside have studied worked, or completed internships abroad; they have lived and traveled in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, China, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and Thailand.

Students report that although studying in another country can be challenging, it is an essential way to learn how others view our country and the world. Immersion in another culture offers us insight into ourselves and our culture; it also helps us acquire or build on a second language.

Education Abroad Mission Statement

Education Abroad/Study Abroad Office provides diverse international educational opportunities in support of students' personal, professional and intellectual development. Education Abroad inspires and informs students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively engage with local and global communities, become culturally competent citizens, and change the way students think about themselves, their communities, and the world.

These outcomes are cultivated and sustained by:

• Identifying and developing safe, affordable, academically rigorous, geographically diverse, culturally challenging and transformative study abroad programs across a wide range of disciplines
• Advising students in the selection of suitable programs
• Preparing students to maximize learning opportunities before they depart, while abroad, and upon their return
• Administering high-quality study abroad programs in partnership with UW-Parkside faculty and staff & colleagues from partner institutions and organizations
• Integrating study abroad with campus curriculum, programs and activities
• Increasing participation and providing access for all students, including those traditionally underrepresented in study abroad
• Advocating for international education to enrich UW-Parkside institutional identity
• Continuously assess and enhance education abroad opportunities at UW-Parkside

The Education Abroad Office strives to be creative, proactive, and responsive, as well as to emulate and set best practices in the education abroad field as exemplified in the Standards of Good Practice and the Code of Ethics set by the Forum on Education Abroad.
