API Study Abroad 101 Program
For those of you interested in studying abroad next year there is a great
scholarship opportunity for you that has a deadline quickly approaching!
Abroad101, which is the largest study abroad review website, has teamed up
with Academic Programs International (API) to promote international education
by launching a $2000 Scholarship Giveaway.

The CIEE Global Access Initiative (GAIN), was created to help students overcome major barriers to study abroad, namely, costs and curriculum requirements. LIFT Scholarship
CIEE's Language Intensive Focus Track (LIFT) scholarship program commits $100,000 annually to help fund the extended study of a single world language by today's top college and university students. The LIFT scholarship program reflects CIEE's long-standing commitment to intensive foreign language acquisition, particularly in the strategic languages that are so important for today's students seeking to prepare for 21st century global challenges. Freeman Scholarships
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
The Institute of International Education (IIE) has announced the re-launch of the Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) with a generous grant from the Freeman Foundation, a private foundation with offices in New York, NY, Stowe, VT, and Honolulu, HI. Applications can be submitted online starting in January 2011 for study abroad beginning in Summer 2011. Freeman-ASIA scholarships will be available for study abroad anytime through the 2012-13 academic year, with application deadlines listed on the program website.
The deadline for Spring 2013 applications is October 10, 2012. Applicants should have a minimum 2.8 GPA.

Fulbright Program:
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” With this goal as a starting point, the Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants — chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
August 1, 2011 is the deadline for most 2012-2013 U.S. Fulbright Scholar applications, but deadlines do vary depending on the program you choose.

Gilman Scholarship Program
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
The program aims to encourage students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

Founded in 1919, the Institute of International Education (IIE) is a private nonprofit leader in the international exchange of people and ideas. LGBT Scholarship
Members of the Rainbow SIG have created a special annual scholarship for American LGBT study abroad students. Hosted and administered by the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA), the FEA Rainbow Scholarship will award up to $5000 to an LGBT student for use during the 2012-2013 academic year. We encourage qualified students to consider applying.

National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Undergraduate Scholarship for Study Abroad and Fellowships for Graduate Students
Boren scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including, Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American and the Middle East. the countries of Western Europe canada, Australia and New Zealand are excluded. Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi's ongoing commitment to excellence is reflected in its scholarships and awards programs. More than $700,000 is awarded each year to outstanding students, Phi Kappa Phi members and chapters through the Society's various awards competitions: the Fellowship, Phi Kappa Phi Scholar & Artist, Study Abroad Grants, Literacy Grants, and Love of Learning.
Phi Kappa Phi sets high standards for its award recipients. Selection committees comprised of representatives from each of the Society's five regions carefully review all applications. Applicants are evaluated based on numerous factors, including academic recognition and awards, campus and community involvement, leadership experiences, and quality and scope of proposed program.
Forty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year. The grants are available to both members and non-members of Phi Kappa Phi.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships
Ambassadorial Scholarships, The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program, was founded in 1947. Since then, more than 40,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today it is one of the world's largest privately funded international scholarships programs. Nearly 700 scholarships were awarded for study in 2009-10. Through grants totaling approximately US$16.2 million, recipients from about 70 countries studied in more than 80 nations.
The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors academic year scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.
These scholarships can be 3-6 months, academic year, or multi-year in duration. Restrictions may apply.

A - Affiliate Student Awards. Affiliate awards are available only to students enrolled at a U.S. university that is a member of the AustraLearn Affiliate Program (UWM is). Students must also meet all general criteria which includes acceptance to an AustraLearn program, demonstrated financial need, involvement in extracurricular activities, and a minimum GPA of 2.5. Awarded in 5 categories, scholarships range from $800 to $1500.
B - Minority Student Award. The purpose of these awards is to further encourage the participation of ethnic minority students in study abroad programs to Australia and new Zealand. Applicants must meet all general criteria (listed above) as well as submit a separate short essay describing their current involvement in multicultural or international activities and how they will use this experience in the future.
C - Advisor Award. AustraLearn will choose 2 university advisors each semester and give them the opportunity to reward an AustraLearn scholarship to one of their students. The student must be enrolled in an AustraLearn semester or year abroad program. Scholarship dollars will be distributed by AustraLearn to student accounts.
University of Wisconsin System Grants for Study Abroad: This program provides a grant up to $1,500 for students participating in a UW-Parkside -sponsored study abroad or exchange program. Eligibility is restricted to Undergraduate Wisconsin residents, enrolled in a program leading to a first bachelor's degree, demonstrating financial need, and enrolled full=time in the semester preceding the student's program abroad Applicants must complete the most current Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. West African Research Association,U.S. Department of Education Minority Student Internship to Africa. Three awards offered annually in the average amount of $1,500. Award includes stipend plus travel expenses and is restricted to the academic field of International Relatins and to the geographic region of West Africa. Costa Rica, Indonesia, Japan, and Uganda Scholarships
Lisle Fellowship Marion Wright Edelman Scholarship. One award offered annually in the average amount of $1,000 to be applied toward tuition. Geographic region is restricted to Costa Rica, Indonesia, Japan, and Uganda at the Lisle program locations. Field of study is unrestricted. Undergraduate, graduate/postgraduate, and professional levels can qualify. U.S. nationals abroad and foreign nationals residing in the U.s. may apply. Applicants must show commitment to world peace. Ireland Scholarships
Irish Fest Cultural Grant- The Irish Cultural Grant was established in 1998 by resolution of the Board of Directors of Irish Festivals, Inc. A yearly total of $1,000 is available, dispersed in smaller grant amounts.
Applications will be reviewed twice a year in May and December. Applicant must be an individual, may be or any age or ethnic background, and need not be a resident of Milwaukee. The Association of International Educators of Japan Scholarships (AIEJ). Funded by the Japanese government to promote study of Japanese language and culture, these scholarships are available for students participating on official exchange programs (such as UWM-Seijo University exchange) with Japanese universities. Bridging Scholarships - The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project is accepting applications from American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan that begin in Fall 2004. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is nota prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States. Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends ranging from $2,500-$4,000 depending on the length of their study program in Japan. In addiction Morgan Stanley will award two $7,5000 scholarships to undergraduate students who will be studying abroad in Japan during the 2004-2005 academic year and who have an interest in economics and international finance. Scandinavia Scholarships
The American-Scandinavian Foundation Awards for Study in Scandinavia. ASF is offering Grants and Fellowships for graduate students doing research in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden.
Students typically apply for an award in Scholarly Research/Study or Creative Arts. Awards range from Grants (normally $3,000) to Fellowships (up to $18,000). The number of awards varies each year according to total funds available. Information is available on the internet at www.amscan.org

Gina Rosko Memorial Scholarship. In memory of UWM student Ms. Gina Rosko, a study abroad participant in 2000. In cooperation with Macquarie University and the Tosko family, this award is open to students studying at Macquarie University majoring in Mass Communications, Journalism or Advertising with a 3.5 GPA. Student must have substantial financial need with documented involvement in their university and community. This scholarship is offered through Australearn. (www.australearn.org).
Patrick Steward Human Rights Scholarship - This scholarship gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of human rights. Students can apply for an independent project or an internship with a local, national or international human rights organization in the U.S. or abroad. Most scholarships are awarded for projects that represent a first time, hands-on experience and incorporate research and the development of activist skills. Open to high school, college and graduate students who attend U.S. schools and to U.S. citizens who are studying abroad. Term: 6 weeks to 4 months. Stipend: $300-$1,800. Applications are available in January and due in March for projects to be completed the following summer. Academy for Educational Development, US Department of Defense National Security Education Program Graduate Enhancement Fellowships. Individual Awards offered every academic year in the maximum amount of $10,000 per semester. Geographic region is unrestricted. fields of study restricted to Area, Ethnic,and Cultural Studies, Foreign Language and Literature, Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in a graduate degree program at the graduate and postgraduate level. Undergraduates in the process of applying to a graduate program are also eligible. Applicants may be from any academic discipline but overseas study must combine domestic language and cultural study. ERASMUS Scholarships. The European Union has announced an ambitious scholarship program that will allow 2,000 students from outside the region to study in two-year master's programs in Europe at any one time. The program, called Eramus World, will have a budget of about $200-million for an initial phase of four academic years, starting in the fall of 2004. Some 4,200 foreign students are to receive scholarships during that period, as the program gradually works up to full capacity Candidates will apply directly to European universities, which will recommend a number of them for the scholarships. A Europe wide commission will then make the final choices. Students chosen for scholarships will have their full costs covered, including airfare to Europe, tuition, and a living stipend averaging $1,600 per month.
Emerging Market Development Advisors Program (EMDAP), The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the government agency that administers economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide and the Institute of International Education (IIE) the largest private, nonprofit educational and cultural exchange agency in the United States, announce the competition for the Emerging Markets Development Advisers Program (EMDAP). The EMDAP is an opportunity for U.S. graduate business students to provide management assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries. The ten-month assignments MBA and graduate degree students gain invaluable international work experience as they contribute to USAID mission objectives abroad. USAID funds the program and provide graduate students positions within host companies at the middle and upper managerial levels in such areas as: Financial planning and cost control, Loan portfolio tracking and analysis, Production efficiency and cost control, Marketing and import/export, Human resources development/management, Information systems and database management. On completion of assignments, Advisors will return to home universities, and under the guidance of their university mentors, write a case study.

Professional Development Fellowships. For U.S. students in their second (or terminal) year of a graduate or professional degree program, or U.S citizens having graduated within 5 years from a graduate or professional degree program. These fellowships are designed for young researchers in professional, policy and public administration related fields who want to develop a specialized knowledge of the newly Independent State. Available for Amenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldavia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan. Queen's University Belfast is pleased to announce that we have a number of scholarships available for international students who, on completion of their undergraduate degree, might like to build on their study abroad experience by studying for a Master's degree in Irish History, Modern History, Irish Studies, or Social Anthropology for entry in September 2012. This is a great opportunity for students as they can complete their Masters in one year and there are no entrance tests required. Augsburg College Center Center for Global Education Scholarships for Students of Color. Five scholarships awarded annually and range from $100 to $1000. Applies only to applicants to Augsburg College Programs Abroad in Mexico, Namibia, and Central America who are undergraduate students of color and who are U.S. citizens. English Speaking Union Luard Scholarship. Two awards offered annually in the average amount of $20,000 - $25,000. This is a full scholarship to the British university of your choice in the geographic Z:\Student Applications, Handouts, Packets, & Forms\Library Handouts\YELLOW-Scholarship Resources\Scholarships.doc.
