The UW-Parkside Archives and Special Collections is located
on the bottom floor of the library, and includes the University
Archives, Special
Collections, and Area
Research Center. The University Archives contain the
historically significant, non-current records of UWP,
and is responsible for the university's
records management program. The Archives also holds
a small number of local manuscript collections and a reference
collection of published materials. These materials include
histories of area communities, businesses, and churches;
books on Racine and Kenosha buildings and architecture;
and UWP histories, yearbooks, and student newspapers.
Special Collections includes rare books, early printed
works, and first, special and limited editions within
a broad range of collections, including the Irving Wallace
and David Kherdian Collections, as well as the UWP Authors'
Collection.
UW-Parkside is also a member of the Wisconsin
Historical Society Area
Research Center network, and is the repository for a
wide variety of state-owned manuscript and public record
collections related to the counties of Racine and Kenosha.UW-Parkside
is a public institution, and the Archives and Special Collections
are available to any individual who is interested in conducting
research and willing to use the materials in accordance
with the university's policies and procedures. The Division
of Archives and Special Collections also maintains a committed
outreach program designed to offer presentations, exhibits,
workshops, bibliographic instruction sessions, special lectures
and classroom visits, professional consulting, and mentoring
in archives and special collections for the UWP community
and for educational and community groups in the greater
Kenosha and Racine area.
